Manual Handling Awareness

Manual Handling is defined as The transporting of supporting of loads by hand or bodily force and includes any activity requiring the use of force exerted by a person to lift, lower, pull, push carry or otherwise move, hold, restrain any animate or inanimate object.

Training

A high percentage of manual handling injuries result in over 3 day injuries.  This results in sickness/absence from work and ultimately lost production to the company. 

 

The injuries are after a strain or sprain, mostly of the back.  Sometimes bones are broken, other times may result in cuts or burns depending on what is to be moved.

This course is designed to enable operatives to carry out any manual handling in a safe controlled manner.  It identifies what is required to assess a load safely via risk assessment.

· To identify the duties of an employee in relation to manual handling

· To identify the safest way to carry out any manual handling tasks

· To enable personnel to assess loads to be moved

· To enable personnel to risk assess the load

· To identify other avenues that can be explored to eliminate manual handling completely
